Flying is the Safest Way of Transportation?

In couple days ahead, I supposed to have my completely, totally happiest day of the year. Yeah, I am going home to Bali, having annual leave after one year in service at PC. But now I am little bit nervous due to an email from a friend who flew home last Sunday. Her plane got a crash in London Heathrow airport. Quickly I surfed the net to know further about the details.

-------------------------------
BBC (10/16/07): Two aircraft collide at Heathrow
Two airliners have been involved in a collision while taxiing at Heathrow airport in west London.
One was a British Airways Boeing 747 departing for Singapore and the other was a Sri Lankan Airlines Airbus A340.
Heathrow's operator, BAA, confirmed there had been an incident at around 2220 BST and that there were no reported injuries.
BA said there had been a "minor collision" involving flight BA011 and an investigation has started.
A BAA spokesman said: "Heathrow airport can confirm that two aircraft were involved in an incident earlier this evening on the ground.
"There are no reported injuries."

Am I paranoia? Is flying the safest way of transportation? Do I have other choices? :). It will be a very long flight. From the Providenciales of Turks Caicos Island airport to London Heathrow is about 11 hours. Then London to Singapore is about 12-13 hours of flying. Singapore to Bali is 2+ hours. All those hours worth it when I arrive in Bali, meeting families and friends.
